When does a dog become a senior?

It depends on the size and breed of the dog. Larger dogs tend to live shorter lives and smaller dogs tend to live longer. A Great Dane could be considered a senior at age 5 or 6, while a chihuahua could be considered a senior at 13-14 years of age or more.

What are common senior dog health issues?

Some of the common medical issues we see in senior dogs include dental disease, mobility issues, kidney or liver disease and thyroid problems.

How should I care for my senior dog? (Schedule regular check-ups, exercise etc.)

Regular appointments with your veterinarian will allow you to catch any of these senior health issues early. Early treatment will help make the dog comfortable before the problem gets worse and will usually give you the best prognosis possible.
